  • Had the great pleasure of being the computing and coach mentor for a SOARS student, Pedro Brea, during the entire summer. I am very impressed with him and I know he is definitely going places. No doubt about it.

  • Got to speak with some summer camp kids about how soils and the land surface contributes to air quality. Thanks a lot ground…

May 2017

  • Attended the GEWEX GLASS Panel meeting in Tokyo, Japan.

  • Attended the Hydrology delivers Earth System Science to Society 4 (HESS4) in Tokyo, Japan. I gave a presentation on convection and land cover change, and a poster about soil water limitations effecting convection. For the record Tokyo was a great place to visit.

  • Had the pleasure of manning the Ozone Garden Table at Super Science Saturday. It was a lot of fun and makes you realize just how quickly kids can pick up what we may think is a complex issue.

October 2016

  • Presented some unpolished work at the NCAR CGD Research Reports. I was presenting a new surface flux-convective initiation equation used to quantify how much latent and sensible heat flux change convective initiation.

July 2016

  • Judged some posters by undergraduates participating in the Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (SOARS). Their research accomplishments and understanding at such a young age is impressive!

June 2016

  • Gave a talk describing how to get land-atmosphere feedback from Offline Simulations entitled “Know Your Forcing”

  • Had a chance to chat with some undergraduate meteorology students about a whole range of topics ranging from graduate school, careers in academia versus industry, and pretty much anything else they wanted to talk about. No doubt all the students I spoke to from the Undergraduate Leadership Workshop will have a bright future.

June 2015

  • Presented some work profiling land-atmosphere coupling in CESM during a talk entitled “Assessment of Land-Atmosphere Coupling in CAM-CLM” at the CESM Annual Workshop.

  • Participated as a mentor during the Undergraduate Leadership Workshop and had the pleasure of speaking with two very bright students, Cliff and Elizabeth.

March 2015

  • Presented a talk at the LMWG meeting on behalf of Paul Dirmeyer entitled “Confronting CLM with land surface observations.

February 2015

  • Presented a talk at the AMWG meeting describing a new sub-grid convective initiation parameterizations in the CESM.

  • Gave an informal brown bag seminar at my alma mater entitled “Rethinking Convective Initiation and Implications for Land-Atmosphere Coupling“. Thank you to Dr. Gary Lackmann for making it possible and for the good discussion by those who could make it.
